Wisconsin vs Iowa February 1, 2015

The last time Wisconsin met Iowa the Badgers totally controlled Iowa in the Kohl Center. And so again, they dominated the Hawkeyes 74-63, in Carver Hawkeye Arena at Iowa City. The Badgers, who were led by Frank (the Tank) Kaminsky didn’t let another second-half lead slip away from them. Kaminsky, with 24 points and nine rebounds led the offensive attack. Aaron White was Iowa’s main threat on both sides of the ball, scoring 15 points and boarding seven rebounds

 

It was beginning to look like another second half downfall just like they blew an 11 point lead to Michigan and won in overtime. Frank Kaminsky stated in a postgame interview by ESPN that they knew that they weren’t going to let go of another lead. With 11:55 left in the 2nd half Nigel Hayes rebounded Bronson Koenig’s shot and slammed it home. That was a huge confidence boost for Bucky, who on the next drive scored on a three-pointer by Josh Gasser. Gasser said later, “I was able to get a little separation and I just let it fly confidently and fortunately it went in.’’ Then, Aaron White hit a three to bring it within eight points.

 

Wisconsin scored seven free throws in the last couple minutes to put the dagger in Iowa. Wisconsin made 21 of 26 free throws.

 

Iowa shot 64 percent in the 1st half but still trailed 42-36. Iowa only shot 30 percent in the 2nd half. Gabriel Olaseni scored 12 points for the Hawkeyes.

 

Wisconsin played tough basketball the whole game and they got a well-earned victory over Iowa.

 

Wisconsin is 19-2 and (7-1) in the Big Ten. There next opponent will be Indiana in Madison at 7:00. They play on February 5.
