Upset Alert!!! Middle Tennessee shocks Michigan State and Hawaii Stuns Cal + much, much more

Man! No wonder they call it March Madness!!!  A few minutes ago the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders shocked the Spartans of Michigan State, becoming the eighth No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 seed ever.

Middle Tennessee ruined brackets all over the country as they shocked Michigan State 90-81 in the first round.  Middle Tennessee guard Reggie Upshaw scored 21 points as he led the Blue Raiders to one of the biggest upsets in tournament history.  Middle Tennessee, who became the first No. 15 seed to win since Florida Gulf Coast in 2013, will play the Syracuse Orange in the second round.

In Denzel Valentine’s last game as a Spartan he scored 13 points and 13 assists, but also committed 6 turnovers.  Matt Costello tied a career high 22 points but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep Michigan State from winning.  Michigan State came within one point when Costello scored with less than three minutes left.

Next, on the upset train we have Hawaii, who stunned Cal in their first NCAA Tournament win in school history. Hawaii ended Cal’s season early, beating them in the first round of the South Regional Final.  The Rainbow Warriors were 0-4 in the Tournament since 2002, but prevailed against the Golden Bears.

Last night, Purdue lost to Middle Tennessee and Yale beat Baylor. Arizona also was beat, by Wichita State.
