Pirates take series, but Crew earns first win

The Pittsburgh Pirates won their first series of their young campaign, but the Milwaukee Brewers won their first game of the season.

 

Neil Walker tormented the Brewers in the first game of the series, going 3 for 5 with a double.  Starling Marte and Pedro Alverez each hit homers for the Pirates as Pittsburgh cruised to a 6-2 victory.

Jeff Locke pitched for the Bucs, giving up two runs in seven innings.   Mike Fiers pitched for the Brew Crew, and he gave up five runs in as many innings. He allowed seven hits.

Adam Lind kept his hot bat going, as he went 2 for 3 with a double.

 

Jimmy Nelson dominated the Pirates in the second game allowing no runs in seven inning, and the Crew blanked  Pittsburgh, 6-0.

Hector Gomez went 2 for 3 in his first start at second base.  Jean Segura hit his first long ball of the season in the fourth inning for Milwaukee.  The Pirates only had two hits.

 

The Pirates huge ninth inning led them to their 10-2 win.

Casey Sadler only gave up a two-run homer to Carlos Gomez in his first start.  Kyle Lohse gave up four runs in 6.1 innings, giving him his second loss of the year.

Andrew McCutchen  hit a three-run blast to cap off a big day. Carlos Gomez went 2 for 4.

Tyler Thornburg gave up six runs in only 1.2 innings.

      he is. he also is the only brewer player hitting the ball.
