Brewers spoil St. Louis’s opener, but Cards get back, win the series

In Game 1,  the Brewers won 5-4 and Matt Garza got the win, giving up two runs in 5.4 innings.  He struck out four batters.    Adam Wainwright got the loss, allowing eight hits and five runs in 7.0 innings.  He moved to 1-1.    Carlos Gomez went 2 for 4 with an RBI.  Matt Carpenter, Matt Holiday, Jason Heyward, and Matt Adams combined for nine hits for the Cardinals.  Francisco Rodriguez got his first save of the season.  K-Rod made a great catch in the ninth inning.

 

St. Louis won the second game 4-2.  Lance Lynn allowed one run and six hits in 5 innings, earning his first win of the season.  Wily Peralta  gave up four runs in 5 innings, two of those runs were allowed in the first inning.  Carlos Gomez left with a hamstring injury and was put on the 15-day D.L

 

It was all Red Birds in the series finale, 4-0. Mike Fiers pitched well until the sixth inning.    Then in the eighth the Cardinals tacked on another two.  John Lackey dominated the Brewers’ offense.
