Brewers stay hot and win series in Colorado.

Denver, C.O. ~ The Milwaukee Brewers squared off against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado for a big series; one of three this road trip, including San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Brew Crew was defeated on Friday 8-4, but bounced back to win the next two games and the series.

The series opener was full of offense as the final score was 8-4. Matt Garza gave up  8 runs, seven earned and got the loss.

Colorado started the scoring in the first inning when Charlie Blackmon hit a moon shot into the left field bleachers.  Domingo Santana hit a homer to right field in the top of 2nd to tie the game and when Neil Walker singled in Eric Thames, who tripled the Brewers took the lead 2-1.

Domingo Santana can’t come up with the catch Friday night.

The Rockies went up for good in the 3rd inning. Pitcher German Marquez doubled with one out and Blackmon singled to put runners on the corners. Keon Broxton then made a diving catch in shallow center for the second out.  However, the next batter, Rockies all-star third baseman Nolan Arenado hit a triple over Domingo Santana’s glove to give he Rockies the lead.

 

 

Colorado got two more runs in the fourth when Carlos Gonzalez singled into right followed by a walk and a Travis Shaw throwing error to second. 5-2 Rockies.  Garza couldn’t make it through the bottom of the fifth. Gerardo Parra hit a home run to get the Rockies lead up to four runs. Garza then struck out Mark Reynolds but the slider in dirt that Reynolds struck out on got past Manny Pina allowing Reynolds to get to first. Carlos Gonzalez homered and the lead went up to 8-2.

Marquez retired the first to batters but surrendered back to back home runs to Keon Broxton and Orlando Arcia to straight away center to make it 8-4 That would end up being the final score.

German Marquez went 5.2 innings allowing four earned runs.

The Brewers survived a close game Saturday night with a three run ninth inning  including  go ahead homerun by Jesus Aguilar.

The Brewers took the lead first Saturday with a three run third inning. Brandon Woodruff collected his first major league hit to lead off the inning.Eric Thames then hit a base hit that got turned into a triple thanks in part to Carlos Gonzalez, who misplayed the ball. Ryan Braun hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Thames. Next up, Travis Shaw hit a solo jack giving

Josh Hader gave Milwaukee a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth but got into trouble immediately in the 7th. Trevor Story led off with a double. Hader got an out but then gave up a single to Charlie Blackmon scoring Story from second base. That was the end for Hader as he pitched for 1 2/3 innings. Jacob Barnes then came on. His first batter, D.J. LaMahieu hit a base hit tying the game at 3 apiece.

Jesus Aguilar hits two run go ahead homer the ninth inning.

It stayed 3-3 until the top of the ninth when Jesus Aguilar hit a pinch-hit bomb, giving the Brew Crew the lead, 5-3.  The Brewers got an insurance run when Neil Walker hit an R.B.I. single. Corey Knebel got the save and Milwaukee won 6-3.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Brewers got a big 8-4 win thanks to Chase Andersen’s nice start, his first since June. Jesus Aguilar had another big game homering twice with 3 R.B.I ‘s. Keon Broxton had a two run single in the ninth and the Brew Crew won 8-4.

Milwaukee got no help from the Chicago Cubs this weekend as they swept the Toronto Blue Jays. The Brewers remain 2 games back in the standings and jumped up to 2.5 games in back of the second wildcard.

The Brewers continue the roadtrip with a 3 game stand with the San Francisco Giants.
