Led by Thames, Brewers sweep Reds

Milwaukee W.I. ~ The Milwaukee Brewers have swept the Cincinnati Reds. Led by first basemen Eric Thames the Brewers racked up a whopping 28 runs in just three games while limiting the Reds to only 13. Thames hit two homeruns in the series opener and another one in the second game, raising his MLB  leading homerun count to 11.

On Monday, the opener, Matt Garza was on the mound for his first start of the season because of a groin injury. It got of to  a good start for Milwaukee as in the first inning homeruns from Eric Thames and Hernan Perez gave the Brewers a 4-0 lead. In the second inning Thames homered again making it 6-1 Brewers.  Garza had some breathing room and the Brew Crew won 11-7. Perez, a utility player, had four R.B.I.s. Scott Schebler had a homerun and four R.B.I.s for Cincinnati. Garza went four innings allowing only one earned run.

In the second game of the series the Brewers absolutely pummeled the Reds by a score of 9-1. Eric Thames hit his 11 homerun of the season and 8 against the Reds. Hernan Perez had two R.B.Is while Jonathan Villar batted in four more. Zach Davies pitched incredible as he struck out 6 in over five-plus innings. As for the Reds, Scott Feldman allowed four runs in five innings. Cincinnati got there only run when outfielder Adam Duvall hit a solo homer.

In the series finale Milwaukee (powered by offense yet again) beat the Reds 9-4 on a sunny afternoon at Miller Park. The Reds finally kept Eric Thames from hitting another homerun but they couldn’t handle the rest of the Brew Crew’s offense. Shortstop Orlando Arcia hit a two run homerun in the 3rd inning. Wily Peralta got the win as he notched up another win, improving his record to 4-1.
