Jones emerging as top Green Bay RB

Green Bay, W.I. ~ Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones is emerging as the top Packers running back. After playing in 44 out of the possible 55 snaps in Green Bay’s 26-17 loss to New Orleans, it looks like he clearly now has the top running back spot on the depth chart, surpassing Ty Montgomery who played in only 7 snaps.

Last season, after Eddie Lacy’s injury, Montgomery surprised many with a great second half. But this season Montgomery is only averaging 3.1 yards a carry on 60 rushes this season.

Jones, who went to college at UTEP, is averaging 5.6 yards per carry to go along with 2 touchdowns.  Unless Jones sufficiently drops his efficiency, its likely that Jones will get the majority of snaps and be the lead runner.

This is good the the Packer offense as Montgomery, a true receiver can now line up as a receiver and be used as a receiver.

The Packers running game has to carry more of a heavy load considering the loss of Aaron Rodgers. Backup Brett Hundley can not carry all of the work load in the passing game like Rodgers has been. Aaron Jones picked up a career high 131 yards on Sunday. He also scored a 46-yard touchdown where he broke through the line and was absolutely gone.Click here to see Jones touchdown
