Brewers take series with great start by Peralta

Milwaukee, W.I. ~ After a rough loss last night, the Milwaukee Brewers piked themselves up and beat the Cincinnati Reds, 4-0, behind a strong start by Freddy Peralta and a 4-4 day at the plate by Christian Yelich.

Heading into an off day tomorrow, the Brewers needed a win today. While Yelich and Peralta played brilliantly. Ryan Braun quietly hit two doubles, and Travis Shaw and Jonathan Schoop both played good defense at their relatively new positions.

Peralta, who has struggled mightily at getting out of the first inning quickly, breezed through Billy Hamilton, Jose Peraza, and Scooter Gennett, the Reds’  first three hitters. He threw seven innings, all scoreless, while giving up three hits and two walks. Freddy also contributed at the plate, with an RBI single, his first major league hit of his career.

The Crew scored two runs on a Yelich’s leadoff blast and Peralta’s RBI single, but added two more in a weird sixth inning.

Jonathan Schoop lead off with a bloop single, followed by a Manny Pina line drive single to but runners on first and second with no outs. Peralta then executed a sac bunt perfectly to advance both runners. Yelich followed with a single into left field to score Schoop. Lorenzo Cain reached on an RBI infield single and Milwaukee put together a solid inning by stringing together a couple bloop and infield hits.

After a great seven innings from Peralta, Taylor Williams started the eighth. He retired the leadoff man before loading the bases with two singles and a walk. He recorded with second out before Jeremy Jeffress came on, getting Gennett to fly out to end the frame.

Jeffress then went on to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the game.

The Brew Crew now will play the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three game weekend series at Miller Park.
