Badgers beat USC in Holiday Bowl

San Diego~ The Wisconsin Badgers fended off the Southern California Trojans rally and won a bowl game for the second consecutive year. Bucky won its first game against the Trojans, and the two teams hadn’t clashed since the 1966 Rose Bowl.

Wisconsin kicker Rafael Gaglianone booted a 29-yard field goal with 2:27 left in the game to lift the Badgers to a 23-21 victory.  The game was sealed when Wisconsin linebacker Jack Cichy hit USC QB Cody Kessler from behind and Sojourn Shelton intercepted the ball with 1:44 remaining in the game. Wisconsin took a quick 10-0 lead when Corey Clement busted through the Southern California line for a 6-yard score. Wisconsin led 13-7 at the half. USC’s touchdown came when Justin Davis scored on a 1-yard rush.

On Wisconsin’s fist drive in the second half they scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass thrown by Joel Stave to Austin Traylor. USC’s Justin Davis scored again to get the game within a score, 20-14. Early in the fourth Kessler found Darreus Rogers from seven yards out and USC lead 21-20. That changed when Gaglianone hit from 29-yards out to give the Badgers the victory.

Stave passed for 217 yards and a touchdown, and completed 18 out of the 27 passes he threw. Clement rushed for 66 yards and a score, while Dare Ogunbawale rushed for 50 yards.

Cody Kessler passed for 221 yards with a touchdown. Ronald Jones II and Justin Davis combined for 64 yards.
